The Device on the Edge of the Table

May 30th, 2012 by

Most people enjoy a good spy thriller, whether in a book or in the movies.  In this painting Russell answers the question, “How would you depict a spy thriller on canvas?”  We see 3 men around a table.  They have retrieved a device and are about to enjoy a meal back at headquarters.  There is official dinnerware with the dinner plates showing a skull logo and a Latin inscription which translated says, “I could tell you but then I would have to kill you.”  There seems to have been a struggle retrieving the device as there is a bit of dried blood on two of the guys shirts.  Russell muted the colors towards black and white in order to focus attention to the scene.  The only saturated colors are small red and green lights on the device – hard to appreciate on the internet based photo.  What does the device do?  I don’t think these guys are going to tell us.  The original is 40 inches x 30 inches  on canvas and is for sale.  2 sizes of limited edition prints are also offered for sale, 10 prints for each size.  The large print is 40 x 30, the medium is 30 x 22.5.  The small size, 20 x 15 inches, is open edition.  All prints are signed and numbered by the artist.
